About Jay

Jay Allen

Jay is a family physician with over 23 years experience. He trained at the Family Medicine Residency Program at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC. He spent the next twenty years serving Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and their families. He now serves the people of Lincoln and Knox counties where his patients include fisherman, farmers, small business owners and retirees (lots and lots of retirees).

Jay has never run for government office before but he is not new to leadership. In the Army, he served as a clinic commander and served twice as a Deputy Commander for Clinical Services (equivalent to a hospital’s Chief of Staff). As a medical student, he served as a student member on the Education Commission of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and then as Chair of the AAFP National Congress of Student Members. During residency, he served as an Army Representative to the Resident Physicians Section of the American Medical Association. He has also held numerous leadership positions at the local and stake (regional) level of his church.

One of the things Jay enjoys the most is travel. The Army gave him plenty of opportunity to do that. He has been stationed in some of the most beautiful locations in the world but has also been deployed to some places that he never cares to see again. One of the things Jay most enjoys about travel is the opportunity to meet new people and experience new cultures. What he has found is that there are good people everywhere, including LA (i.e., Lower Alabama—Josh, you know I love you).

Pemaquid Light, Not Far From Jay’s Home

In addition to travel, he likes playing piano, walking through the woods or on the beach, photography, and genealogy. Jay took this photo of the Pemaquid Lighthouse.

One of the most important aspects of Jay’s life is his family. He has been married to Sandy for 35 years and counting. They have six children spread all across this nation (as is common for military families). They also have five grandchildren.
